Membership

For the purpose of registration and in general unless and until otherwise lawfully determined the number of members of the Society is unlimited

There shall be three categories of Membership:

Full Member

1. The Membership is restricted to qualified Ophthalmologist. These must have a University Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and second degree in Ophthalmology; they should be registered in Tanzania under the Law governing the practice of Medicine.
2. The member under this category is eligible to vote or be voted into leadership.
3. Full members shall pay to the Society such membership fee and Annual Subscription fee as the Society may from time to time determine.
4. Paid up Members for the year under consideration shall be entitled to all rights, honors, and privileges of the Society.
5. Full members may ascribe the acronym TOS after their name or any other acronym or format approved by the Executive Council.

Associate Member

1. These shall include Medical doctors who are training to become Ophthalmologists, AMO’Ophthalmology, ophthalmic nurses, opticians, optometrists and Orthoptists
2. The Council may at its discretion on application elect to its membership as associate members such persons being non-Tanzanian Ophthalmologists who hold a minimum of Bachelor of Medicine degree or its equivalent from institutions recognized by the Council.
3. Paid up associate members for the year under consideration shall be entitled to all rights, honors and privileges of the Society just as a full member except for voting or being voted to elected office.
4. Associate members shall pay to the Society membership fee and annual subscription fee as the Society may from time to time determine.
5. Members may use acronym TOS after their name or any other acronym or format approved by the Executive Council.

Honorary Member

1. Health workers who have interest in Ophthalmology and who in the opinion of the Executive Council have contributed significantly as to merit such recognition can be granted honorary membership.
2. The Executive Council may at its discretion elect to its membership as honorary members such persons who have rendered distinguished service to the Society or to the Ophthalmology profession.
3. Honorary Members are not eligible to vote or be elected into office.
4. Honorary Member shall not pay subscription fee.
5. Honorary Membership shall be for such periods, as the Executive Council may in any case deem appropriate.
6. Honorary Members may ascribe the acronym TOS (Hon) after their name.
